Burning Information

Within the boundaries of Shire of Waroona there is abundant native vegetation, which makes many areas bush fire prone.  There is the need to restrict or prohibit the lighting of fires in the open air or restrict activities likely to cause a fire. In the Shire, the restricted and prohibited burning periods are outlined below. These dates are subject to variation and alterations will be published in the local newspaper as well as below.

Prohibited and Restricted burning periods are declared by the Authority under section 17 and 18 respectively of the Bush Fires Act 1954. To obtain further information read the Shire’s Firebreak Notice, contact your local Fire Control Officer or contact the Shire Office on 97337800.

Fire Bans

Total fire bans are declared because of extreme weather conditions or when widespread fires are seriously stretching resources.  When a total fire ban is declared it is illegal to do anything that is likely to start a fire.
