Waroona Youth Precinct Site Selected

The Waroona Shire Council has identified the site for the future Youth precinct.

Following consultation with the community and the Recreation Advisory Committee, the site will be housed at the Waroona Recreation and Aquatic Centre (WRAC) grounds.

While the feedback showed similar support for this site as well as the old basketball courts at the Waroona showgrounds, it was considered that the WRAC site will allow for an expanded youth precinct into the future, as well as its synergies with the recreation building.

Now that the site has been selected, Shire President, Cr Mike Walmsley said that a master plan and business case can now be developed to identify the size and layout of the future skate park as well as other infrastructure to cater for the youth.

“Work will commence immediately in order to define the size, shape and cost the skate park, and to identify what else can be added to be a quality youth and family friendly precinct”.

“We need to get on with this quickly given that we will be requesting grant funds and that a state election will be held in just over a year so this will be a high priority funding request to political parties”.

“As part of the design of the skate park, the Shire will shortly be consulting with the community in order to develop the design and scope of the park, and to identify what else could be developed”.

Funding assistance for the development of this precinct has been provided via the Waroona Alcoa Sustainability Fund and the Shire of Waroona.
