Code of Conduct for Council Members, Committee Members and Candidates

The Local Government Act 1995 and Local Government (Model Code of Conduct) Regulations 2021 require local governments to adopt a code of conduct to be observed by council members, committee members and candidates that incorporates the model code, and to publish this code on the local government's official website.

Code of Conduct for Employees and Volunteers

The Local Government Regulations Amendment (Employee Code of Conduct Regulations) 2021 introduced minimum requirements for local government employees in relation to gifts, conflicts of interest and disclosure. The Chief Executive Officer must ensure that an up-to-date version of the code is published on the local government’s official website.

Model Standards for Chief Executive Officer Recruitment, Performance and Termination

The Local Government (Administration) Amendment Regulations 2021 amended the Local Government (Administration) Regulations 1996 and inserted the Model Standards for Recruitment, Performance and Termination of local government chief executive officers (CEOs). Local governments must adopt CEO Standards that incorporate the Model Standards and publish these standards on the local government's official website.
