The Local Drug Action Team Program, driven by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, supports communities to work together to prevent and minimise the harm caused by alcohol and other drugs. The Shire of Waroona is proud to be a part of this program and collaborates with local groups and services to bring about education and awareness in our community.

On 12 December 2023, the Shire of Waroona partnered with Waroona Police, Waroona District High School, Waroona Fire and Emergency Services, St John Waroona, and Heart Hub South West to present to students in year 6 – 10 a simulation event with a focus on reducing drug and alcohol harms in young people.

Shire President Mike Walmsley said the collaboration has been an important initiative in educating young people about minimising harms caused by drug and alcohol use.

“Students have been able to experience firsthand how drug and alcohol use can have a detrimental effect not only on themselves, their friends, and families, but also the community as a whole.” Cr Walmsley said.

The event has been captured by Simple Ben Stories to help promote a message that Waroona Local Drug Action Team hopes will save lives in our community.
