The Shire of Waroona is a local government authority in Western Australia’s Peel Region with significant bushfire risk across rural, urban interface and natural landscape areas. Working in partnership with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and neighbouring local governments, the Shire plays an active role in the planning, coordination and delivery of bushfire risk mitigation initiatives that support community safety and resilience.
The Shire of Waroona is seeking a motivated, forward-thinking and collaborative professional to join the organisation in the full-time role of Bushfire Risk Mitigation Coordinator (BRMC). This position will be hosted by the Shire of Waroona for the duration of the DFES funding grant and plays a key role in reducing bushfire risk across the Shire and participating local governments through the planning, coordination and delivery of bushfire mitigation activities.
The Bushfire Risk Mitigation Coordinator is responsible for the evaluation, development and implementation of bushfire risk mitigation strategies and treatment programs across the Shire of Waroona and other specified local governments. The role works closely with internal teams and a broad range of external stakeholders to ensure mitigation activities are effectively planned, delivered, monitored and reviewed in accordance with legislative and funding requirements.
While the position is hosted by the Shire of Waroona, the BRMC will be predominantly based at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) State Bushfire Mitigation Office to be located in High Wycombe, with regular travel to the Shire of Waroona and other participating local governments as required to support project delivery, stakeholder engagement and on-ground activities. The position will report to the Manager Development Services and will work collaboratively with Shire staff, DFES, neighbouring local governments, contractors and community stakeholders. This is a fixed-term contract role funded by DFES for the period commencing from appointment (anticipated February 2026) to 30 June 2028, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to community safety and emergency management outcomes at both a local and regional level.
The Shire offers competitive employment conditions, including an annual cash salary anticipated to be within the range of $90,000 to $100,000, commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications, plus superannuation and the provision of a 4WD vehicle for the duration of the contract.
