Remembrance Day
Past Event
On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minutes’ silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. Originally named Armistice Day, the Australian and British governments renamed the 11th of November to Remembrance Day.
Remembrance Day is a day to Remember to Remember – to commit to pausing for just one minute to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country, those who returned home injured or ill, and those who bravely serve our country today. Since 1920, the red poppy has been used as a symbol for commemoration.
The Waroona Remembrance Day service will be held by the Shire of Waroona, Waroona District High School and St Joseph’s at the Waroona War Memorial. The service will commence around 10.30am, where at 11am, the community will pause for a minute’s silence to remember those who served and sacrificed in all wars and conflicts.
We invite you to join the community in commemorating Remembrance Day 2022.
