Honorary Freeman Presented to John Twaddle

On Friday 15th January the Waroona Shire Council awarded the very prestigious local government award of Honorary Freeman to Mr John Twaddle AFSM known locally as “the Captain”.  It is only the 4th time in the Shire’s long history that this award has been bestowed.

The ceremony was held in Waroona and attended by family, friends, local government members, work colleagues, Waroona Fire & Emergency Services members and special guests including the Hon Andrew Hastie MP, Member for Canning and Assistant Minister for Defence and Mrs Robyn Clarke MLA, Member for Murray-Wellington, Mr Darren Klemm, Commissioner of Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and Deputy Commissioner of DFES, Mr Craig Waters.

The Shire President advised the award was for his outstanding volunteer service to the Waroona community and of particular significance was:

  • Over sixty years service to Waroona Agricultural Society
  • Over fifty years service to Waroona Volunteer Fire & Emergency Services with forty five years as Captain; and
  • Over 40 years service as a Shire Bush Fire Control Officer, with over twenty years as Chief Bush Fire Control Officer.

A very surprised and delighted John Twaddle accepted the award from the Shire President and thanked Council for receiving this award.

Everyone in attendance joined in congratulating John on his award and stayed for afternoon tea and light refreshments.
