RECYCLING - CLEANAWAY

Due to an incident at their South Guildford Material Recovery Facility, Council’s contractor Cleanaway has been working to secure alternative recyclables processing capability within the Perth market. The Shire is pleased to confirm that Cleanaway has signed an agreement with the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council to process the recyclable material until such time as the South Guildford MRF is rebuilt, which is expected to be prior to the end of 2020.

Under the contract with the SMRC, Cleanaway will be able to process 50,000 tonnes of comingled recyclables over the next twelve months. SMRC has committed to the ramping up of its operations to provide additional capacity to accept Cleanaway’s materials and Cleanaway recommenced taking this material to SMRC on Monday 17 February. In addition to the agreement with SMRC Cleanaway are expediting further interim infrastructure with a licence application being lodged which will provide manual processing of recyclables at their Welshpool property.

Together with Cleanaway the Shire are committed to ensuring all co-mingled recycling is diverted away from landfill. We encourage residents to continue with their good recycling practices and ensure only recyclable material is placed in recycling bins.
