The Shire wishes to inform the community that vegetation clearing at Drakesbrook Cemetery is scheduled for Friday, 19th September.
This work will be carried out under Native Vegetation Clearing Permit CPS 10649/1 and involves the mechanical clearing of native and non-native vegetation to support the planned expansion of the cemetery, in line with the Drakesbrook Cemetery Master Plan.
While the Shire recognises that clearing native vegetation is not ideal, we assure the community that:
- No mature native trees will be removed.
- Xanthorrhoea preissii (grass trees) on-site will be retained and protected.
- The clearing will focus on groundcover and shrubs, including both native and non-native species, located beneath established trees.
We thank the community for its understanding as we continue to plan for the respectful and sustainable development of the cemetery.
