The Shire is in the process of updating the Local Heritage Survey (LHS). The Shire is inviting all landowners and/or residents to nominate any properties or places that they believe should be included in the LHS.
Why do we want new nominations?
As a landowner or resident, you will have a unique insight into the history of the Shire. Over time, what we value in the community evolves. The people in our community have differing opinions and views on what is important to them. We review the LHS to capture what is new, what has changed, and how we feel about our heritage places. Also, by looking closely at what is on our LHS, we notice what is missing. The Shire would like to ensure we ‘fill the gaps’ so that the places in our LHS are representative of our diverse community.
Can I nominate a public building or place?
Yes. The Shire will notify all owners whether they be private, governmental or other, to participate in the assessment of the property that has been nominated.
Can I nominate someone else’s property to be on the LHS?
Yes. You do not need to be the property owner to nominate a property or place for inclusion in the LHS.
Can I nominate my own property to be on the LHS?
Yes.
Will I be notified if someone else nominates my property?
You will be notified if someone else nominates your property for inclusion on the LHS. You will be invited to participate in the assessment of your property, and you will have the opportunity to make a submission on the potential inclusion of your property in the LHS.
How do I nominate a place for inclusion on the LHS?
Nomination forms can be downloaded via the below link. Completed forms can be emailed, posted or hand delivered to the Shire. Please ensure your nomination is submitted by no later than 20 December 2022.

What happens next?
Your nomination will assist the Shire to assess new places and make recommendations to Council. The final decision as to the inclusion of places in the LHS and Heritage List will be made at a Council meeting in 2023.
