PRESTON BEACH FORESHORE MANAGEMENT PLAN TO BE REVIEWED

The Shire of Waroona has resolved to review its Preston Beach Foreshore Management Plan following the appointment of seven local residents on the Steering Committee.

Funding of $55,000 has been allocated towards review the current Foreshore Management Plan, with $30,000 of this being provided by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.

The aim of the review is to improve management of the area, improve sustainable tourist use of the area, ensure management of the coastline is consistent with state government frameworks, and implement meaningful protection and maintenance of the coastline.

Shire President Cr Mike Walmsley said that this plan will help in setting long-term objectives and meet the ongoing challenges of managing the coastline.

"We are very keen to work closely with the local community on this Plan and hence we have invited four local residents who all nominated for the Steering Committee as well as three members who have significant experience and expertise in the areas we need".

"Councillor Noel Dew will also join the Committee which further value to the Committee given his knowledge of the area".

It is expected that the review of the Preston Beach Management Plan will be completed and endorsed by mid 2021.
