The Shire of Waroona is pleased to invite community members to get involved in the wonderful public artworks for our new community precinct. There are a range of activities coming up in January and February, with opportunities to have your say on themes, submit your designs for consideration, and to get hands on in creating!
MOSAIC DESIGN
January 13th, 10am – 12pm, Memorial Hall
January 14th, 10am – 12pm, Memorial Hall
Railside Park’s footpaths will have 12 community mosaics installed – but what should they look like? What are the local icons, themes, landscapes, flora and fauna that should be included in the mosaics? Join the Arts and Culture team from element in a creative design session, and develop your idea for a mosaic design. Participants can draw, paint, take photography – or just come and have a chat about what you think should be included in the mosaics.
HERITAGE POLE CARVING – COMMUNITY CONSULTATION
January 13th, 1 – 3pm, Memorial Hall
January 14th, 1 – 3pm, Memorial Hall
South-West wood carving artist Neil Turner will be creating a series of carved timber poles for installation in Railside Park – come and speak to Neil and his team about the important themes, stories, and community character to capture in the timber pole designs, and help us determine what the designs will be. Hear from Neil about the pole carving process and get a look at some of his tricks and tolls!
HERITAGE POLE CARVING – HANDS ON
February 2nd, 4 – 7pm, Railside Park
As part of the Twilight Community Celebration, come down to Railside Park and try your hand at carving one of the heritage poles that will be installed throughout the park. Lead by artists Neil Turner and Kallie Turner, community members will have the chance to contribute to a collaborative community carved timber pole, based on a design created out of the consultation sessions. No experience necessary – come and have a go!
Please note children must be supervised by a parent or guardian
MOSAIC CREATION – FEBRUARY 3RD AND 4TH
March 9th, 9am – 5pm, Railside Park
March 10th, 9am – 5pm, Railside Park
Let’s get hands on with Railside Park’s 9 community mosaics! Come down to Railside Park and help create our mosaics. Lead by mosaic artists Paul and Lisa Petale from Workshed Mosaics, participants will be guided in bringing our community designs to life. No experience necessary, all ages welcome, and stay for as long as you’d like!
